FAQ

Before reporting any malfunction of AITM you should read this FAQ. Some of your questions might get an answer right here.

General

    1. AITM does not start or displays an error message during startup. What's wrong?

Check that your Software matches the AITM Software Requirements and that all required components are installed (e.g. VB Runtime, ActiveX Controls, etc.). Still problems then contact me.

    2. Why is the tool called AI Traffic Mover?

Well, I started with the Mover function. That's why.

    3. AITM says that was an error during compiling. How I can show the TTools compiler to see the error?

You can show the compiler via Tools -> Switches -> Show Compiler. The next you start the compiler the compiler window will shown.

    4. How can I enable the AITM debugging feature?

To create the debug logs you'll have to enable them via Tools -> Switches -> Debug. During shuffling two files will be created in the Flightplan folder:

      • "Shuffle.log" - Contains some information I might need for debugging.
      • "Shuffle Result.log" - Contains a summary over all regions and countries. This file could be useful for you too.

    5. AITM says: "Couldn't find Flight Simulator Path". What can I do?

Please verify that you have the following key in your registry:

      For FS2002: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\8.0\EXE Path"

      or

      For FS2004: "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator\9.0\EXE Path" or

    6. AITM is really slow on my Windows95/98/Me installation. What can I do to improve the performance?

My tool needs a huge amount of memory. On these systems the memory management is really bad. My advice is to disable AITM's Undo function to decrease the amount of memory used by AITM or to upgrade your system to Windows 2000 or higher. I personally use Windows XP.

    Shuffler

    1. I only see the old FS Airlines, why?

Check that you have compiled the new Flightplan. Also be sure that you add some other airlines to the Global section.

    2. I only see small aircraft like Cessna and Pipers. What's wrong?

This can be caused by an unconfigured "AIRLINES.CFG" or you don't have enough aircraft that can be used as an AI Aircraft. Another reason could be that you don't have an aircraft/airline for the region/country you're currently flying.

    3. Why do I see so many aircraft of type/class XYZ?

AITM creates a list of suitable aircraft. The randomly an aircraft will be chosen. So it might be that during shuffling one type or class of aircraft could be more often selected than others. But you can adjust this if you change some of the performance values in the "AITM_AC.CFG". For example if want to see the class "Micro Jets" less often. Decrease the maximum range or flight level.

    4. Why did AITM remove so many flights?

This might be a problem with your Flightplan. Often additional Flight Schedules use incorrect Flight Levels, e.g. FL310 for a distance of 80nm isn't realistic and the chance that AITM can't find an aircraft is rather high. So be sure to check the removed flights or use the shuffler option "Correct Flight Levels" to avoid such problems. Another problem might be that you don't have enough different aircraft types installed. Be sure that you have enough aircraft in each class. I personally have over 600 different aircraft and with the standard AI Traffic (23115 flights) I only lose about 43 flights. This flights are only removed, because Microsoft made some mistakes. Just a small example: Some airports don't have an open runway or use a wrong surface (Grass instead of Concrete/Asphalt). Also a bad aircraft class configuration can cause this problem. Always be sure that you use correct performance values for each aircraft or class.

    5. My Aircraft is never used in a flight?

Check that the aircraft is assigned to an airline and that this airline is assigned to a region and/or country. Also check if the aircraft type is assigned to an aircraft class. If not add it to the correct aircraft class with the Aircraft Editor.

    6. The shuffle process takes a long time on my machine. Why?

Because of the huge data it might take several minutes until the Shuffler has finished. On my machine (AMD XP 1800+ with XP Pro) it takes about 15 seconds for 23115 flights. But the time needed is also depending on the leg size (standard AI Traffic has only 2 legs, but many other Freeware Flightplans have more than 2).

    7. Why do I see my aircraft XYZ in the Mover View under "Unknown" and in the Shuffler View under it's FS title?

In the Mover View aircraft can be sorted by either airlines or aircraft classes whereas the Shuffler View uses the property "ui_manufacture" from the aircraft's configuration file "Aircraft.cfg" to order your installed aircraft.

    8. I have configured some airline hubs, but there are still other local airlines at this airport. Why?

This can happen, if there is no suitable aircraft in the airline fleet. So go and download some other aircraft types for the airline. Also check if the aircraft performance values ("AITM_AC.CFG") are configured well.

    9. Since V1.2 the Shuffler function is slower. Why?

Since V1.2 the Shuffler uses the scenery runway parameters. Therefore the function needs to lookup and compare more values. That's why it is a bit slower than the previous versions.

    10. I am not satisfied with the results after shuffling?

As usual this is a matter of taste. AITM's Shuffler is highly customizable. So I can give you only one tip: Play with the configuration!

    Export

    1. I was looking for: Dep. ICAO "KATL" - Leg ICAO "KATL" - Flight Type "IFR" - Search Type "OR".
Why are so many flights found in the Export?

That's a typical mistake you can do. The Search Type OR will look for every flight that matches one of your parameters. As most flights are IFR you will get lots of flights. If you are looking for all IFR flights from KATL you'll have to change the search parameters to: Dep. ICAO "KATL" - Flight Type "IFR" - Search Type "AND". Now you search will be successful. If you want to find all flights to KATL your search would look like this: Leg ICAO "KATL" - Flight Type "IFR" - Search Type "AND".

    2. Do I have to use whole words in the Export?

The answer is no. AITM searches for non case sensitive substrings. To find flights executed by "Pan Am" you could use "Pan".

    Analyzing and Optimizing

    1. Why do I still get incorrect Flight Times reported after I used AITM's "Correct Flight Times" function?

As already described in the Analyzing section in this help, AITM can not correct all errors. So you'll always need to correct some flights manually. You should also keep in mind that correcting some flights lead into long standing times. Thus they are displayed again in the Flight Time report.

    2. If I try to edit a flight from the "Incorrect Flight Time" report and just press "OK" in the Flight Editor then no warning message is displayed by the editor as it should?

This is a phenomena that can rarely occur if the calculated TTools ETA is slightly "incorrect" and the automatic ETA calculation of the editor corrects the ETA. If you reopen the report this flight will not be shown again after you pressed OK in the editor, because the new leg ETAs are saved to the plan. This is by design and can not be corrected.

    3. AITM reports "Aircraft not found" after loading a plan, but after running the report the Export/Search does not display any flight. How can this happen?

The report only shows flights where the assigned aircraft can be located in your FS installation. So if there are no flights assigned, you will not get any flights displayed. To remove this aircraft use the Flightplan Aircraft Editor.

    Flight Editor

    1. Why are some times different between the Export/Search grid and the Flight Editor?

Before displaying the legs the Flight Editor recalculates the leg ETAs. Because the ETA calculations differ between AITM and the TTools-Compiler (+/- 1min) you might see some slightly differences.
